A creed is a formal statement of religious beliefs. A set of guiding principles that dictate the believer’s actions. We are familiar with creeds like The Apostle’s Creed. These creeds are vital because they provide a concise and unified summary of foundational biblical teachings. They serve as a shared statement of faith across denominations, protect against false teaching, and connect modern believers with the historical roots of the global church.
In the Bible, Paul gives Timothy an important job. To remember and keep the word of God true and good. So it can be shared, unspoiled, with the rest of the world. And we have that important job too! Despite public opposition, we are called to live openly and courageously for the Gospel. We have a responsibility to pass down and protect the foundational teaching of Christianity, guided by the Holy Spirit.
